For the third time in history, Southern Miss will serve as one of the NCAA’s 16 host sites as the NCAA Tournament is set to begin on Friday, June 3.

The Hattiesburg Regional will feature the Golden Eagles, Army, Kennesaw State, and LSU.

Southern Miss head coach Scott Berry recently explained during an episode of SportsTalk Mississippi what home-field advantage means in the postseason.

“I think it makes a big difference,” Berry said. “Of course, if you have 6,000 fans and they’re sitting on their hands and they’ve got their mouths shut, then it’s not much of a difference. But if you have the great fan bases…that enjoy the game, the atmosphere, get engaged, and bring the energy, then certainly it’s an advantage to the whole team. In this case, we’re talking about our team. It makes a big difference.”

As for Ole Miss, the Rebels landed the No. 3 seed in the Coral Gables Regional which will also feature Miami, Canisius, and Arizona. The Wildcats defeated the Rebels in the 2021 Super Regional round.
