Southern Miss quarterback Braylon Braxton was named Sun Belt Offensive Player of the Week after his performance against UL Monroe helped lift the Golden Eagles to not only a win but also bowl-eligibility for the first time since 2022.
The senior transfer from Marshall was 18 of 23 passing for 248 yards with four touchdowns and no interceptions in the 49-21 win. His four touchdowns were the most a Southern Miss quarterback has thrown for since Jack Abraham notched the same number against Rice in 2018.
Braxton is now second in the Sun Belt in passing yards with 1,959 – just 36 yards behind Old Dominion’s Colton Joseph. He is second behind Joseph in passing touchdowns with 18 but has five less interceptions.
Braxton wasn’t the only Golden Eagle to bring in the honors after Southern Miss’ latest win. Charles Huff was named Sun Belt Coach of the Week and Blake Anderson was named Sun Belt Coordinator of the Week, both awards coming from CBS Sports.
Huff, with the help of Anderson at OC and Braxton at QB, has engineered statistically the best turnaround in college football this season. In 2024, before Southern Miss hired Huff, the Golden Eagles were a lackluster 1-11. Their current 6-2 record with four regular-season games left to play in 2025 marks the largest year-over-year win improvement in FBS.
Southern Miss returns to action on Saturday, Nov. 8, at Arkansas State.
