After telling SportsTalk Mississippi earlier this week that he would be returning to Southern Miss “if the situation is right,” Frank Gore, Jr. has decided that the situation wasn’t right and instead, he will be declaring for the NFL Draft.
In a social media post on Saturday, the junior running back announced his decision to go pro.
“After many discussions with those who I trust and know have my best interest, and most importantly, after some self-reflection, I have decided to forgo my senior season and enter the 2024 NFL Draft,” Gore wrote. “Placing my future in God’s hands.”
Gore, the son of NFL Hall of Famer Frank Gore, was not highly recruited out of Killian High School (Miami, Fla.). However, Southern Miss gave him a chance, in which he used to be one of the best rushers in the entire FBS.
In four seasons with the Golden Eagles, Gore rushed for 4,022 yards and 759 attempts. Serving as an all-purpose player, he added 692 receiving yards and 380 passing yards with 38 total touchdowns.
“Southern Mississippi has fulfilled a dream of mine and made it an experience I’d do again and again,” Gore continued in the announcement. “Southern Miss has brought me lifelong friendships, valuable relationships with coaches who have become mentors, and lessons in becoming a man overall.”
According to Pro Football Focus’ annual big board, Gore is currently the No. 181 overall player and is projected as a fifth-round or later pick.
