Ag Commissioner Andy Gipson says admission is free for all active military personnel and veterans for the Standing for American Freedom event to be held on Sunday, December 5, inside the Mississippi Coliseum.
The concert by country music artist Travis Tritt with a special appearance by Lee Greenwood, will begin at 5:30 p.m. and is being held in recognition of the 80th Anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor, which will be observed nationwide on December 7.
“We want to encourage families to come out and honor our Mississippi veterans at the Standing for American Freedom event,” said Commissioner Gipson. “In addition to recognizing all our veterans, active military personnel and first responders, we want to especially pay tribute to our active military personnel and veterans and thank them for their service by giving complimentary tickets to this incredible event. Join us for this patriotic and very special tribute to the heroes that represent our great state and country.”
In addition to the concert event, an exposition will also be held in the upper concourse of the Mississippi Coliseum beginning at 2:00 p.m. The expo will include several vendor booths offering information on various military and veterans programs, services and resources, as well as recruitment opportunities for military branches, law enforcement departments and other first responder organizations. Admission for the expo is not required, however, admission upon re-entrance to the concert performances will be required.
All active-duty military personnel and military veterans will be eligible to receive one complimentary admission ticket. The complimentary military tickets must be picked up in person at the Coliseum Box Office. A valid military ID will be required. In addition, all church groups, schools or established organizations purchasing 20 or more tickets, will receive $5.00 off each ticket. In order to receive the discounted group rate, admission must be purchased at the Coliseum Box Office. Tickets start at $25.00 and can be purchased online at www.Ticketmaster.com or at the Mississippi Coliseum Box Office.
Standing for American Freedom is being held in partnership with the Friends of Mississippi Veterans. A portion of the proceeds from each ticket sold will benefit the construction and improvements of Mississippi Veterans Homes.
