The deadline for the next round of applications for the 2023 Spring Session in Mississippi’s “Stay in the ‘Sip Fellowship” program is right around the corner, with the due date quickly approaching at the end of September.
In early 2022, the Office of the State Auditor (OSA) created the fellowship in an effort to fight Mississippi’s “brain drain” by paying for tuition, books, and fees for a select group of accounting students at the state’s public universities. In return, that chosen group of individuals must dedicate at least two years of employment at the OSA.
To be eligible to apply, the participant must procure a Bachelor of Science in Accounting or a Masters of Accounting at a public university in Mississippi. The individual must also meet certain prerequisites involving GPA, current hours fulfilled, and enrollment status.
As an incentive, the OSA gives fellows a paid internship, post-graduation employment, health plan coverage, and a paid degree in accounting. In return, participants must work for a minimum of two years and 336 hours each summer at the OSA.
The first round of fellows was selected in June. Now, the OSA wishes to continue the program throughout 2023 by opening applications for a spring and summer/fall session.
Applications for the spring session close on September 30, 2022. The summer/fall application due date is on March 1, 2023.
