As spooky season is here, so is the demand for sugary treats, and according to a new study, Mississippians have a unique love for one candy over any other.
Instacart found that candy corn is king in the Magnolia State. After a brief hiatus, allowing Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups to take the top slot in 2024, candy corn has regained its throne as the most uniquely popular candy residents are buying. In 2023, the grocery delivery company reported that candy corn, albeit a controversial choice, was the most uniquely beloved candy in Mississippi during the month of October.
Instacart defines “unique” as a calculation of the share of a brand or type sold in each state compared to the national average.
The 2025 study, which is based on October 2024 numbers, Mississippi was one of just four states that prefer candy corn. The others were neighboring Alabama, Kansas, and Nebraska.
“Mississippi topped the list, ordering candy corn 92% more often than the national average. Nebraska wasn’t far behind at 91%,” a portion of the study reads. “On the flip side, Hawaii ordered candy corn 55% less often than average, followed by Washington, D.C. (-50%) and Florida (-43%).”

While candy corn has the land between Louisiana and Georgia in a stranglehold and a tight grasp of a portion of the Midwest, Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups aren’t sweating it. Nationally, Reese’s took the No. 1 spot in total weight sold, followed by Peanut M&M’s, classic M&M’s, Kit Kat, and Snickers.
Rounding out the top 10 candies sold ahead of Halloween were Sour Patch Kids, Hershey’s Milk Chocolate, Milky Way, Trix, and HARIBO Goldbears.
