Mississippians are gearing up for Super Bowl Sunday with retailers and restaurants already stocked up on gameday staples like wings and pizza. But according to a new study, fans in the Magnolia State have a different dish they prefer when tuning into the final game of the NFL season.
The Sports Geek recently looked at search data related to different game day foods over the past 30 days and found that the top Super Bowl snack in Mississippi is…burgers.
While firing up the grill and tossing a few patties on is not uncommon when it comes to tailgating and getting ready for the big game, burgers aren’t generally the first food that comes to mind when thinking about the Super Bowl – at least for most nationwide. Mississippi was one of just a few to land burgers as their favorite food on Super Bowl Sunday.
Rounding out the top five Super Bowl snacks in Mississippi were chicken wings, chips and dip, ribs, and corn dogs. Fries, cookies, shrimp, onion rings, and nachos then piled in to make up the top 10.
Rank | Snack | Google Trends Score |
1 | Burgers | 88 |
2 | Chicken Wings | 85 |
3 | Chips n Dips | 83 |
4 | BBQ Ribs | 80 |
5 | Corn Dogs | 80 |
6 | Fries | 80 |
7 | Cookies | 76 |
8 | Shrimp | 76 |
9 | Onion Rings | 69 |
10 | Nachos | 65 |
Corn dogs are definitely a surprise, while the absence of pizza is a bit shocking. Chips and dip cracking the top five makes sense as there’s no better pregame entertainment than hovering around the appetizer table and dipping everything from a carrot to a cracker in whatever dips you can ingest before kickoff.

On that note, the study also crunched the numbers on Mississippians’ most-searched dips going into Super Bowl Sunday. And it’s pretty on par with what you might expect.
Rank | Dips | Google Trends Score |
1 | Ranch Dressing | 94 |
2 | Queso | 73 |
3 | French Onion | 65 |
4 | Guacamole | 50 |
5 | Pizza Dip | 49 |
6 | Hummus | 48 |
7 | Buffalo Chicken | 47 |
8 | Bean Dip | 46 |
9 | 7-Layer Dip | 45 |
10 | Spinach Artichoke | 42 |
Pizza dip but no pizza? C’mon man. Either way, don’t let this study impact your spread. Enjoy the game, eat good, and have fun.
Kickoff between the Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX is slated for this Sunday at 5:30 p.m. CT and can be watched on FOX.
