An investigation is underway following a reported officer-involved shooting that took place in the Mississippi Pine Belt.
The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation (MBI) is looking into an incident in which a Covington County deputy allegedly struck an unidentified individual after the subject opened fire at officers Saturday morning.
Deputies were responding to a call for service at a residence on Jack Flowers Road in Collins. Upon arrival at the residence, the subject is said to have begun firing a weapon at the responding deputies, leading to an exchange of gunfire striking the subject.
The subject was transported to a local hospital. The deputies involved did not receive any serious physical injuries during this incident.
