Ninth annual Radiothon Raises $328,500 for Palmer Home for Children

SuperTalk Mississippi hosted its 9th Annual Radiothon benefiting Palmer Home for Children on Thursday, July 15. Listeners from across the state tuned in to SuperTalk Mississippi between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. and heard personal testimonies directly from children, alumni, staff, and supporters of Palmer Home as they shared information on the organization’s mission and history, impactful stories of life change and their vision for Palmer Home’s next 125 years during The Gallo Radio Show, The JT Show, Good Things with Rebecca Turner, and SportsTalk Mississippi.

The day ended with $328,506.76 raised for Palmer Home and additional funds are expected to flow in over the weekend through the online auction. The auction, which ends at noon on Monday, July 19, features items including a signed Archie Manning Jersey, guided crappie tour, and a custom hand forged knife and sheath. J.T. Williamson, host of The JT Show, made a special appearance during the Radiothon to discuss the JT Williamson Education Support Fund. Established last year, the fund honors JT’s continuous dedication and passion that he has shown to Palmer Home for Children through the years. A portion of the funds raised during The JT Show will go directly to the fund and support the educational needs of Palmer Home for Children’s transitional students, ages 18-24, who are making their pathway to independence.

“We are so thankful for our continued partnership with SuperTalk Mississippi. Radiothon is not only our biggest fundraising day of the year, it’s also an amazing opportunity for the children, staff and supporters of Palmer Home to share their stories with fellow Mississippians,” said Drake Bassett, President & CEO of Palmer Home for Children. “The $328,500 that was raised today – and the more than $2.1 million that has been raised since this partnership began – will make an immeasurable positive impact on the lives of vulnerable children and families in our state.”

In 2013, SuperTalk Mississippi declared Palmer Home for Children as the network’s charity of choice and established the annual Radiothon to support basic operational needs of the organization. Over the past nine years, the annual event has raised over $2.1 million for the children at Palmer Home.

“Palmer Home for Children is truly a blessing to our State and a safety net for children in need and we were honored to partner with them again this year as our charity of choice.” said Kim Dillon, President and CEO of SuperTalk Mississippi Media. “Palmer Home is privately funded, the more than $325,000 raised today will make a huge difference in the lives of the children served by Palmer Home. In addition to raising money for Palmer Home, the Radiothon also creates an awareness of the mission of Palmer Home. As we have said, we can save one child at a time and hope does grow at Palmer Home!

Donations are still welcome and can be made at any time. To make a onetime donation, or to learn how to make a monthly donation and become a Palmer Hero, visit palmerhome.org/donate.
