Suspect arrested for kidnapping and death of Mississippi teen

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office is now the lead agency over the investigation into the homicide of 16-year-old Denasia McGregory, who was found dead in the trunk of a car at a Tupelo daycare Tuesday morning.

Evidence collected by authorities suggests that McGregory was killed in Clay County before being transported to Tupelo.

On Tuesday, Tupelo police arrested 19-year-old Labrandon Tumblin — a resident of Aberdeen — after the teenager allegedly barricaded himself in a house close to the daycare while holding occupants hostage.

After negotiations between the Tupelo Police Department’s SWAT unit and Tumblin, the teenage suspect surrendered to officers and granted the hostages their freedom.

Tumblin was initially booked into the Lee County Jail on a kidnapping charge but has since been relocated to the Clay County Jail.
