It was a story that angered and touched many.  A 2-year-old little boy was abandoned at Goodwill Industries in Southaven with only a note and a bag containing a change of clothes.

Monday morning, Southaven police turned to social media to ask for the public’s help.

Later in the day, Police Chief Macon Moore reported that the little boy was turned over to Child Protective Services saying, “Child Protective Services follows strict protocol regarding matters of this nature with the child’s safety and health being the absolute priority.”

Southaven Police received numerous tips, and with the assistance of F.B.I. offices in both Mississippi and Tennessee, along with the Shelby County Sheriff’s Department, a suspect related to this case was taken into custody in Memphis at approximately 3:30 Monday afternoon.

The investigation is still ongoing and no suspect information or charges are being released at this time.

Chief Moore said, “We would like to thank all of the citizens who showed concern for the child, rest assured he is well, and being taken care of and will be reunited with family when CPS determines this is proper. We would also like to thank all of the citizens who offered tips regarding the suspects in this case. The cooperation from the community and a unified effort from law enforcement led to the speedy apprehension of suspects.”
