Termites are a homeowners worst nightmare, but this time of year Formosan termite swarms can be spotted in southern parts of Mississippi. This subterranean variety has spread to 25 counties since it was first detected in 1984. They nest and forage in the soil, but if they find a source of moisture above ground, they can become independent from their mother colony.
Thankfully, the swarming season is short. The majority will remain outside. They’re highly attracted to light, so if you keep your exterior lights off, you might just avoid getting bugged out.
