Terry High School in Hinds County is the latest in a long list of Mississippi schools who have dealt with safety issues since the 2024 school year began.
As has been true for many of the other cases, including a school shooting threat in Calhoun County on Monday, a social media post apparently detailed a threat of violence against Terry High School on the same day. Hinds County Sheriff Tyree Jones reports that students and staff were never in danger.
“I’m optimistic about identifying the source of the threat and there could be potential criminal charges filed at that point,” Jones said. “We take all matters and threats against schools in Hinds County seriously and we will continue to work in partnership with Hinds County School system to assure the safety of the schools.”
Jones also noted that, while the school was never on lockdown, extra security was provided at the school throughout the day.
Six total arrests have already been made amidst the flurry of school threats, with the latest being of Elsie Jo Cavnor after she reposted a school shooting threat to Snapchat that was initially made two years ago. The unidentified school that was threatened was placed on lockdown as a result of Cavnor’s reposted threat.
