The University of Southern Mississippi is calling off classes this Thursday in preparation for the football team’s midweek game against Louisiana.
In an email sent to students, faculty, and staff, university officials wrote that all in-person and online classes at both the Hattiesburg and Gulf Coast campuses will be canceled for the day.
“With increased visitors, media, and parking demands throughout the day, maintaining normal class schedules and operations is not possible,” a portion of the email reads.
With classes temporarily on the back burner, USM head coach Will Hall is urging everyone to come out and support.
“It would be huge to help us win the game. And that’s the number one deal, right? We all want to win. We all want to win. These kids are busting their butt. This staff is busting their butt. Man, I really, really, really wish we would band together and pack it out,” Hall said during his weekly press conference.
The Golden Eagles (4-3, 2-1 Sun Belt) are just two wins shy of being bowl eligible for the first time since 2019. Kickoff against the Ragin’ Cajuns (4-3, 2-2) is set for 6:30 p.m. at M.M. Roberts Stadium in Hattiesburg. The game will be broadcast on ESPN2.
