As Mississippi continues to get hit with severe weather, multiple tornadoes have been confirmed from Sunday night.

According to Governor Tate Reeves, tornadoes touched ground southeast of Florence in Rankin County and across Jasper County in Louin, Bay Springs, and Turnerville.

Reeves added that severe weather shelters are in the process of opening across the state.

According to FOX Weather, at least one person died in the tornado that struck Louin around 11:40 p.m. CT. The person, whose identity has not yet been released, is the second to die from recent rounds of severe weather. 67-year-old Wilbert Fleming of Canton was killed Friday after a tree fell on his home.

Other storm damage has been reported in DeSoto County and the Jackson metropolitan area. Both Jackson Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba and Hernando Mayor Chip Johnson have declared local states of emergency.

As of Monday morning, nearly 50,000 residents remained without power as crews work to restore electricity as safety conditions allow. To view outages in your area, click here.
