A trio of Belhaven players have earned USA South weekly honors after the Blazers came from behind to beat Brevard 23-20 in overtime, announced by the conference on Monday.

Junior wide receiver Wyatt Locastro was named Offensive Player of the Week after a career performance that included three catches for 128 yards and two touchdowns. Both scores for the Memphis native came in the second half and helped spark Belhaven’s rally from a 14-point deficit.

Locastro’s first touchdown was from 21 yards out in the third quarter and cut the game to one score, while his second was a breakaway 53-yard score that gave the Blazers their first lead since the opening period. Brevard eventually tied the game on a field goal before Belhaven kicker Lyndell Boatman lofted one through the uprights in overtime to seal the win.

Boatman, a junior from Eupora, was named Special Teams Player of the Week for his day that not only included the game-winning field goal from 18 yards out but successful boots from 28 and 23 yards. He made both of his extra-point attempts, as well.

Allowing Boatman the game-winning kick was defensive back Dee Gray. The senior from Enterprise intercepted a Brevard pass on the opening possession of overtime to keep the Tornadoes off the scoreboard and put the Blazers in prime position to start conference play with a victory. Gray added a career-best 11 tackles, including eight solo stops, and broke up three passes.

Belhaven (2-3) will continue its conference slate on Saturday against North Carolina Wesleyan. Kickoff from Rocky Mount, N.C., is scheduled for 11 a.m.
