Tupelo mayor eyes October 2026 for Target opening

Good news for shoppers in northeast Mississippi: after years of anticipation, a projected date has been set for Target to open its doors in Tupelo.

Tupelo Mayor Todd Jordan announced this week that the store is set to be up and running on North Gloster Street in October 2026. Back in March, city leaders confirmed to WTVA that the process of getting the retail giant to northeast Mississippi was nearing the finish line. Now, constructing the building from the ground up is seemingly the final remaining step.

Target’s Tupelo outlet will be around 150,000 square feet and will be housed in a commercial area of town near the Mall at Barnes Crossing, along with a myriad of restaurants and retailers.

Back in 2023, Target representatives made a trip to the Magnolia State to scope out a site on North Gloster Street as a possible location for a store. In September 2024, store officials filed paperwork with the city of Tupelo for potential construction on the site that was viewed a year prior. Less than a month after the paperwork was filed, the Tupelo City Council approved a rezoning project for the site where Target is slated to be built. The rest is history.

The company is on a mission to build 300 stores in the next decade, with the Tupelo site fitting into that campaign. Other Target locations in Mississippi can be found in D’Iberville, Flowood, Hattiesburg, Horn Lake, Jackson, and Olive Branch.
