Sharpshooters Matthew Murrell and Josh Hubbard have landed on the Coaches All-SEC Preseason Team ahead of the highly anticipated 2024-25 college basketball campaign.

Murrell, a second-team selection, is set to begin his fifth season at Ole Miss after forgoing a shot at the NBA. The senior enters the upcoming season ranked 16th all-time in school history with 1,444 career points and fifth in three-point field goals made with 218.

He ended last season on a high note as one of the conference’s most consistent scorers, putting up 16.2 points per game and earning a second-team All-SEC honor.

Hubbard joins his in-state conference counterpart as a second-team selection. The Bulldog point guard is coming off a spectacular freshman campaign in which he was the most prolific scorer on his team, logging 16.8 points per game and breaking the program record for most three-pointers in a single season.

The Madison-Ridgeland Academy alum set the Bulldogs’ freshmen single-season record with 521 points last year. He closed out the regular season with five consecutive games of 20-plus points, the longest run by a Mississippi State player since Jeff Malone accomplished the feat with 11 straight games in 1982-83.

Both No. 24 Ole Miss and Mississippi State will begin the regular season on Monday. The Rebels will host Long Island in the SJB Pavilion at 7:30 p.m. CT. The Bulldogs will tip off against West Georgia in Humphrey Coliseum at 6:30 p.m. CT.
