For the fourth day in a row, the Mississippi State Department of Health is reporting under 1,000 new cases of COVID-19.
The latest report of 791 new cases brings the state’s total up to 277,322. With the confirmation of *26 additional deaths, 6,158 Mississippians have now passed away from the virus.
*MSDH Note: 4 COVID-19 related deaths occurred between December 18, 2020 and January 28, 2021, identified from death certificate reports.
Overall hospitalizations have fallen below 900 in the latest data from the MSDH for the first time since mid-November.
Estimated recoveries have not been updated for the week.
Tuesday, Governor Tate Reeves announced that Mississippi has surpassed the 1/4 million mark for administered COVID-19 vaccine doses.
Additionally, the governor noted that the mask mandate, which covers 75 counties and is set to expire today, will likely be extended in its current form.
