Federal unemployment policies that make it more profitable for some Mississippians NOT to work are getting the blame for a lot of the worker shortages being experienced across our state. But Bob Anderson, the Director of the MS Department of Human Services, says that isn’t the only thing keeping them away.
In an interview on The Gallo Show on SuperTalk MS, Anderson explained that in some cases it’s a lack of child care. “One of the things that’s keeping, especially moms, out of the workplace is having a place for their children. It’s hard to find childcare from 6pm-7am. We’re looking at some ideas for making childcare available during those hours,” he told us.
They’re planning to use funding from the American Rescue Plan to try to make that happen.
