A South Mississippi mayor has passed away from COVID-19-related complications.
Following a two-week hospitalization, the city of Wiggins and family members confirmed on social media Monday morning that Mayor Joel Miles passed away.
A recent post from Mayor Miles’ wife Mary detailed Joel’s battle with COVID-19 as he was transferred from George Regional Hospital to Gulfport Memorial.
The post urged everyone to wear a mask with Mary stating that Joel was “was adamant about wearing his mask. He felt he needed to do everything he could to protect people.”
Miles was diagnosed with the virus in mid-November, and according to WLOX, he was recently among the first patients at George Regional to receive a newly administered antibody treatment similar to the one taken by President Trump.
