The woman accused of a fatal DUI crash in Madison County has been released on bond.
Jordan Sullivan, 32, of Louisville, was granted a $250,000 bond on Monday afternoon. She is said to have been under the influence while driving the wrong way near the Gluckstadt exit on Interstate 55 during a Saturday crash that took the life of Tyra Small-Jackson, 48.
Small-Jackson, a teacher at Nicholls Middle School in Canton, had to be extricated from her car and died on the scene. Family members of the victim were not pleased with officials’ decision to grant Sullivan Bond, per a report from WLBT.
“She has a history of doing this, and now she has a $250,000 bond? My baby is gone, and I’ll never get to see her again,” Bennie, the mother of Small-Jackson, told the TV station. “My grandchildren will never see their mother again. My great-grandchildren will never see their grandmother again.”
Small-Jackson was the 2023-24 Teacher of the Year at Nicholls and was going into her 24th year as an educator. The Canton Public School District said in an official statement that Small-Jackson’s “beautiful spirit will forever live on in the memory and the heart of countless lives she touched.”
Two other victims were transported to a local hospital and are expected to make a full recovery. Gluckstadt Police noted that Sullivan had a DUI arrest on her record before Saturday’s crash.
